Francois Ory |
|
Francois Ory made the trip from Alsace, down the Rhine River to Rotterdam, then on to Cowes England, then across the Atlantic to Philadelphia. He arrived on the 16th of September, 1736, with Anna Maria Perchi, between 4 and 7 children (not sure) and Nicolas Ory, his nephew. His first wife, Marie Raguet, had been dead for about 10 years. He settled, with second wife, Anna Maria Perchi, not far from Philadelphia, in Cocalico Township, Lancaster County and started farming. His exact date of death is undetermined, but is between 1758 and 1759.
Francois Ory started moving around the area of his family's home of Nazeville after his first wife died in 1726. Locating records in France has become a hop scotch affair finding records scattered through out the parishes in the general area. So far the parishes have only been about 5 miles apart. One thing that has been learned is Francois and Anna Maria Perchi are still in the area in 1732 before traveling to America in 1736. His signature from a birth record of one his children with Marie Raguet is shown below. |

Francois Ory's will was originally written in German and translated into English to enter it into the records of the day. There have been a few English translations that have been found, but I believe the one I am posting is an original translation made for the courts of the time. You can see how "Ory" became "Ury" from these documents. |
